CUET UG 2025: Revised Guidelines in Detail

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced several significant changes to the CUET UG 2025 exam pattern.

Here’s everything you need to know:

1. Computer-Based Test Only

CUET UG 2025 will now exclusively follow the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format, discontinuing the hybrid approach used previously.

This ensures consistency and simplifies the testing process.

2. Reduced Subjects

The total number of subjects has been reduced from 63 to 37, narrowing down the choices for students and streamlining the admission process.

For the dropped subjects, universities may use scores from alternative assessments like internal or state exams.

3. Language Section Changes

Students can now choose from 13 languages, down from the earlier 33 languages.

This makes preparation more focused and tailored to common academic requirements.

4. Exam Duration Standardized

The duration of each exam paper has been standardized to 60 minutes.

Previously, it varied between 45–60 minutes depending on the subject.

This uniformity ensures better time management for students.

5. All Questions Are Compulsory

The optional question format has been removed.

All questions will now be mandatory, ensuring a uniform evaluation process across all subjects.

6. Maximum Five Subjects

Students can now appear for a maximum of five subjects, reduced from six.

This change reduces academic pressure and allows students to focus more effectively.

7. Flexibility in Subject Choice

For the first time, CUET UG allows candidates to select subjects they did not study in Class 12.

This encourages interdisciplinary exploration and flexibility in career planning, aligning with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP).

Why These Changes Were Introduced

CUET UG has undergone revisions to address the challenges faced in previous editions, such as technical glitches, delayed results, and student feedback.

The changes aim to make the exam process smoother, reduce stress, and enhance its inclusivity and effectiveness.
